How does it work?

A very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface, the whitening ingredients in The Boutique System used simply penetrate the tooth enamel to reach all the discolouration in place. The oxygen molecules from the whitening agents then react with the discoloured molecules in your teeth, effectively destroying the bonds that hold them together.

Am I suitable?

Teeth whitening is not suitable for anyone aged 16 years or younger and nor is it suitable for pregnant women or those who are breastfeeding, however, as long as any cavities in place are fixed prior to treatment and all teeth have been professionally cleaned then The Boutique System is completely suitable for you! And remember, Dr. Culbard will carry out a thorough consultation and dental assessment before any treatment is provided.

Does it hurt?

There is no pain involved with although some people may have teeth that are sensitive to peroxide. This means there may be some sensation during the procedure and some discomfort after when drinking or eating hot or cold drinks, however, the product favoured by Dr. Culbard is The Boutique System which has been designed with integrated potassium nitrate to reduce any sensitivity. It also has a high water content to keep teeth hydrated – perfect!

How long does it take?

Following the consultation, Dr. Culbard will provide a bespoke home whitening kit which comprises of a four-week supply of Boutique Whitening gel with unique whitening trays customised to suit only your mouth. The turnaround time from assessment to provision of the trays will be two weeks and treatments can be assessed during the fortnightly aesthetic clinics at Soprano Ice Edinburgh should you choose.

How safe is it?

What if I have fillings, caps, veneers or crowns on my front teeth?

Dr Andrew will assess your teeth prior to having the tooth whitening treatment, however it is important to remember that restorations (fillings, crowns, bridgework and veneers) do not whiten, so be prepared for your teeth to potentially look whiter than the restorations in your mouth. This is only an issue if they are on your visible front teeth. You may wish to speak to Andrew about replacing any restorations should you wish to continue with the whitening.
