Dry January is not always a good thing…

Dry January is not always a good thing…

Now the festivities are well and truly behind us, we are all looking at ways to cut back and repair the damage all the partying has done… (no regrets, you can come out from under the duvet now!)

January brings the real chill of winter and all the drying effects this has on your skin. Your liver and general health will thank you for the break but your skin also needs attention..!

Ria, our senior therapist and specialist in dermatology has these six top tips for you to keep on top of your skin looking its absolute best this January.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise…

A thirsty skin is difficult to hide. To look and feel at its best, skin needs to be fed and watered twice a day. We all moisturise, however, not any moisturiser will do at this chilly time of year. Look to invest in a moisturiser that delivers anti-oxidants, nutrients and hydration that gets to work on your skin 24/7. Products containing hyaluronic acid, lactic acid and mineral oils will keep skin soft, supple and smooth. Or add a serum to your skincare routine to help retain hydration. Our range of ELEMIS moisturisers feel extraordinary, smell extraordinary and work wonderfully.

Use a cream cleanser on your face…

Gel and foam washes can strip away valuable oils needed for your skin whereas the formulas in cream cleansers typically contain moisturising, hydrating agents and don’t strip the face of its natural oils.  We recommend the luxurious deep cleansing cream by ELEMIS to reveal radiantly youthful complexions.

Lip balm…

This should be a staple in your handbag! Designed to retain moisture and prevent chapped and sore lips, look for products that contain Shea Butter and Glycerin. Did you know that Glycerin works very well with lemon juice, whether it is for your face or lips? Mix the two together to treat dry lips and prevent flaking and bleeding.

Add moisture to the air…

January is the month that really brings out pesky coughs and colds. A great way to help prevent this is by using a humidifier. You don’t need to invest in one because a damp cloth on the radiator is just as effective in preventing a dry atmosphere. Great for your health as well as your skin!

You are in expert hands…

Our hands show our age as much as our faces do and just as our faces get dry, our hands go through a lot each day; it is just as important to look after them as much as the rest of our body. Treat yourself to a pair of moisture gloves and indulgent hand cream and add it to your evening routine during the winter months.

Keep it warm…

Don’t run the shower or bath at too hot a temperature as heat can really dry your skin out more than usual. Use warm water instead and limit your time in the shower or bath.
